More ways to help our Akitas

Maybe you can’t foster or adopt right now, but you can still support us. As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, Midwest Akita Rescue Society (MARS) depends entirely on people like you! Find out some of the other ways you can help MARS in our mission to rescue Akita dogs.

Volunteers needed!

Some of our wonderful MARS volunteers

We know not everyone can give one of our Akita orphans a forever home right now. But did you know there are many other ways you can help support MARS?

As an all-volunteer organization, we always need people to help us in our mission to rescue Akitas. We have opportunities for fosters, fundraising, marketing/PR, transporting dogs, or helping out at the kennels in Chardon, OH or St. Louis, MO. Find out more about these and all the other ways you can lend your time to help MARS.

Hubble’s Gratitude –

Hubble the day after his surgery

Hubble, formerly called Maximus and renamed by his caring vet techs, is a four-month-old pup that was brought to a clinic with inches of his intestines prolapsed. He was brought in by his owner to be euthanized and his breeder was giving the owner a replacement pup. The vet immediately contacted MARS, knowing this pup needed immediate care that was beyond her expertise. We were able to get him to a VCA clinic in Savoy, Illinois whose director, Dr, Dwayne Dust, performed extensive surgery to save his life and removed several inches of colon and intestines. This was on Friday the 13th and pictures of this fighter were taken on the 14th.

A long time friend and MARS member and a vet tech herself has offered to foster this boy. We are all so thankful to everyone for their prayers and support. Look at what that support has achieved! Hubble, you have a bit of a road ahead but somehow we feel you will make it a smooth journey.

If you would like to help with the cost of Hubble’s surgery and ongoing care, please consider a donation to MARS.

About MARS 20th Anniversary

Founded in approximately 1977, we are one of the original Akita rescue groups operating in the United States. In 1998, we absorbed Akita Owners Rescue Foundation (AORF) to become a freestanding entity and this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary as MARS. We have proudly placed over 900 Akitas in forever homes!
