Puppy Training

Puppies under 16 weeks need to be gently exposed to other young pups, as well as sights, sounds and smells. A well-run puppy kindergarten class helps with all of these exposures and is a must. It’s very important to take advantage of this short window Between 7 and 16 weeks, because this is when a puppy’s curiosity is greater than his fear. Older dogs who don’t show signs of aggression can benefit from an age-appropriate group class that uses positive reinforcement (“R+”) techniques. In all cases, the faculty should be certified, class numbers should be limited, and methods should include no prong/pinch collars, leash pops, spray bottles or cans of coins shaken in the dog’s ear. In other words, NO coercion or harsh handling.
